How Do I Adopt a new Family Member?

Adoption is Easy! Just print and fill out an Adoption Application and bring it in to the Shelter. You can also stop in and fill one out at the Shelter. If all goes well (as most do), you pay the modest adoption fee (see below for prices) and your new found friend goes home with you, usually within 48 hours. Everybody's happy!

We do a thorough backround check and call refrences if we know you or not. We need to make sure our friends only go to homes we feel are appropriate and will be a happy environment for the animal, and you, the future owner. If you rent, you will also be asked to provide a reference from your landlord. The Lincoln County Animal Shelter (et al.) reserves the right to refuse any adoption without reason, at their discretion.

The minimum age to adopt a kitten or puppy is 8 weeks old. If it hasn't been spayed or neutered, you will be required to have it done by the time the animal reaches 6 months old.

Animals in our care are up to date with vaccinations and are either healthy, or recovering from illnesses due to outside influences. We have the utmost respect for our animals and their health.

  • Adoptable cats have been spayed / neutered, had rabies and distemper shots, flea treated, wormed, and tested for feline AIDS and leukemia.
  • Adoptable dogs have been spayed / neutered, have been tested for heartworm and lyme diseases, flea treated, wormed and vaccinated for kennel cough.
